The Bristol Fire Union Local 773 will hold its annual Tip-A-Firefighter charity fundraiser on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Chili’s Bar & Grill in Bristol. This year, Local #773 will be donating the proceeds to the Friends of the Bristol Animal Shelter.
Customers who would like to support the event may dine at Chili’s all day and if they have the event flyer, Chili’s will donate 10% of their check to the Friends. From 6:00pm until 10:00pm, Bristol firefighters will be on the scene, serving as wait staff and bartenders alongside Chili’s regular staff. Any tips that the firefighters collect will also be donated. Raffle tickets for various door prizes and event t-shirts will also be available for purchase.
“Our firefighters look forward to this event each year,” stated Sean Lennon, President of the Local Fire Union 773.
“It’s a great way to give back to the community and we enjoy helping out local organizations. The Friends of the Bristol Animal Shelter recently earned its non-profit 501c3 status and we want to give them a lift as they begin fundraising to construct an outside recreation area for the dogs that are brought to the Pound.”
“We are excited for this event,” stated Trish Ulin, President of the Friends. “We have a great working relationship with the Bristol firefighters since Engine #4 is right across from the City Pound, and we featured them in a calendar with some of the animals we were seeking to adopt out a couple of years ago.”
In the last 4 years, the Friends of the Bristol Animal Shelter have worked with the City’s Animal Control officers to pro-actively adopt out over 75 dogs. In addition, they have raised funds to groom, train, and vaccinate others dogs to improve their chances of finding a forever home.
The group’s current goal is to renovate a large outside area adjacent to the Pound into a recreation area for the dogs to exercise and have some time outside of their cages.
“Recently the Art Squad started to paint an animal themed mural on the front of the Pound which will assist in identifying the building,” stated Lindsey Rivers, vice president of the Friends board. “That, combined with working with the Fire Union to jumpstart our fundraising, is really going to bring new life to this building and give dogs an opportunity to run and play.”
