Chamber to Host Local Debates Monday Oct. 17

The Bristol Chamber of Commerce will host a debate for local State Senate and House of Representative candidates tonight Monday, October 17, 2016 at Saint Paul Catholic High School in the Auditorium, 1001 Stafford Avenue, Bristol. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the debates will run from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The invited candidates are: 77th District State House of Representatives – Laura Bartok (D) & Cara Christine Pavalock (R-incumbent); 78th District State House of Representatives – Whit Betts (R-incumbent) & Krystal M. Myers (D); 79th District State House of Representatives – Peter J. Del Mastro (R) & Christopher Ziogas (D); and 31st District State Senate – Henri Martin (R-incumbent) & Michael D. Nicastro (D).

Well-known veteran political reporter Tom Monahan, formerly from NBC30, will be the moderator for the event. Each pair of candidates will be asked a series of questions with two minutes to answer and one minute for rebuttal.

All candidates will also be given an opportunity at the end of the debate to sum up why they are running.

All taxpayers and voters covered by these districts are invited to attend.

Waterbury man killed in motorcycle crash

BETHANY — State Police say a Waterbury man was killed after his motorcycle crashed on the Litchfield Turnpike. Police say the crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. in Bethany. They were called to the area of Litchfield Turnpike and Hatfield Road for the accident, police say. The driver, Adam Corcoran, 36, of Waterbury, was seriously injured and rushed to Yale-New Haven hospital. He later died from his injuries.
