Citing his strong commitment to public safety in a press release, State Senate candidate Mike Nicastro has earned the endorsement of the Connecticut’s State Police Union (CSPU). The CSPU represents 1,040 members including Troopers, Sergeants, and Master Sergeants across Connecticut.

“Mike Nicastro’s commitment to public safety and Trooper safety is truly appreciated by the entire union membership,” said Andrew Mathews, President of the Connecticut State Police Union. “We are happy to announce Mike as one of the few candidates to receive our official endorsement this year.”
“Each and every day, our police officers answer the call to service,” said Nicastro.  “ Our troopers protect our families and keep our streets safe. I am honored to receive their support, and when I am in the State Senate, I will always ensure that they have the tools they need to get the job done.”
This year, Nicastro’s opponent, Senator Henri Martin, turned his back on police officers when he voted against a bipartisan bill providing mental health service for police officers who acquire Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the line of duty.
The bill would have established a police officer post-traumatic stress disorder program and commission to fund and provide wage replacement benefits to any police officer who takes leave from his or her employment due to PTSD, after a claim is approved by the commission.
“Given the chance to stand up for our first responders and ensure they receive critical mental health treatment, Henri Martin chose instead to once again say ‘no’ to the people of Connecticut and to those who provide our public safety” said Nicastro.  “It’s time we had someone in Hartford who is willing to stand up and stand for our police and our citizens.”
