Wheeler Clinic health services has appointed Athena Dellas-Szczesniak, MBA, to the position of chief financial officer.
Previously, Dellas was vice president of Finance for the organization.
In this new role, Dellas oversees all of Wheeler’s finance, accounting, revenue cycle, practice management and purchasing functions, while ensuring compliance with all regulations concerning the management and expenditure of federal and state funds.
“Athena’s extensive knowledge of health care finance, strong performance, and commitment to our mission make her a wonderful choice for this position,” said Susan Walkama, LCSW, president and chief executive officer at Wheeler Clinic.
“Athena’s leadership has been critical to our efforts to efficiently manage our resources, navigate our continued growth, and proactively address emerging changes in how health care services are funded and reimbursed. Her fiscal acumen will help ensure Wheeler is securely positioned to meet the needs of our patients and the communities we serve across Connecticut.”
Dellas joined Wheeler in 2005, and her role within the organization has grown progressively to include a broad range of responsibilities within the areas of finance, revenue, accounting, audit customer service and call center operations.
Prior to joining Wheeler, Dellas was a financial analyst for the American Red Cross in Farmington, Connecticut.
Dellas obtained her Master of Business Administration and bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Southern New Hampshire University and is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Wheeler Clinic in Bristol is located at 10 North Main Street.
The organization opened the Health and Wellness Center in 2014 and offers a variety of medical and behavioral health services.
The staff includes a family practice physician, nurses, a mental health clinician, medical assistants and a community outreach coordinator who contacts residents and service organizations with information on the center.
There is also an internal pharmacy that, along with other features of the center, is intended to allow clients to do as much as possible in one location.
The clinic offers monthly seminars and events on different health topics and works closely with Bristol Hospital sharing information and making referrals to better serve the community.
