Major donation of mattresses made to Bristol non-profit

For Goodness Sake

For Goodness Sake, a Bristol nonprofit that provides donated furniture and household goods to individuals and families transitioning to independent living, was thrilled recently by a generous mattress donation promise from Connecticut Mattress by Tom Wholley.

Over the next 3 months, Connecticut Mattress will donate 90 mattresses, mattresses that will go directly to people transitioning into a new living space from either homelessness or a crisis situation.

“The clients that For Goodness Sake serves are coming out of shelters or off the streets, they’re escaping a domestic violence situation, they’re homeless veterans, or they’re getting back on their feet after a personal crisis such as addiction,” explains Kendra Morales, President and Executive Director of For Goodness Sake.

“Wherever they’re coming from, most of them don’t have beds to sleep in. They’re committed to getting their lives back on track, but it’s really hard to hold down a job and make sure your kids do well in school if everyone’s sleeping on the floor. This ongoing donation from Connecticut Mattress means the world to our clients, literally.”

Connecticut Mattress is a local mattress retailer with stores in Southington, Avon, and South Windsor. Tom and Kathy Wholley, owners of Connecticut Mattress, have supported For Goodness Sake ever since they heard of the organization and its mission. Tom says, “For Goodness Sake does a great service for our community, and we’re pleased that we’re able to give back and help out neighbors that aren’t as fortunate as we are.”

For Goodness Sake is a 100% volunteer-run, 501c3 nonprofit that partners with organizations to help people in Central Connecticut who are making the transition to independent living and are in need due to certain life situations.

For Goodness Sake provides direct aid, such as furniture and household goods, making an empty space into a home.

The organization serves families and individuals in Bristol, Burlington, Farmington, Harwinton, New Britain, Plainville, Plantsville, Plymouth, Southington, West Hartford, and Wolcott. For Goodness Sake accepts gently used furniture and household goods from the community and distributes them to people in need. Clients must be referred from a partner agency.
