A Bristol man has died after he crashed his car into a tree on Route 9 on the Essex / Old Saybrook line over the weekend.
State troopers arrived on scene to find 38-year-old Keith Engle of Bristol trapped in a car that had crashed into a tree.
Engle was pronounced dead on scene.
Police believe Engle drove off the road into the median. When officers arrived, they saw the vehicle in the wooded median against a tree.
They believe Engle was driving northbound when he drove off of the road into the wire rope barrier and hit the tree.
The right lane of Route 9 was closed while police investigated, but it has since reopened.
