The residents of Burlington just became safer thanks to a grant from the Burlington Community Fund at Main Street Community Foundation to purchase two automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
The $2,300 grant was awarded to the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department.
The refurbished AEDs will allow the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department to perform critical care immediately to help save people who are in cardiac arrest.
The grant was awarded during a small ceremony in early May at the Burlington Volunteer Fire Department. Janet Schwartz of the Burlington Community Fund Advisory Council, along with Jarre Betts, Vice President of Programs at the Community Foundation, presented the grant to EMT Michael Haaser, Fire Chief Andrew Mercieri and EMT-in-training Enzo Mercieri.
The Burlington Community Fund was founded in 2011 by a group of committed community leaders in Burlington to create an endowment fund to support charitable projects and programs that will enhance the quality of life for their neighbors. The Fund regularly assesses community needs and awards grants accordingly.
In addition, the Fund holds an annual grant cycle. Applications will be made available July 15 and are due September 15.
