Memorial Boulevard Cultural Center Vice President & Former Parks Director Announces Bid for City Council

Josh Medeiros

Former City of Bristol Parks and Recreation Coordinator and Aquatics Director, Josh Medeiros announced his bid for City Council for the 1st District.

Medeiros is also the Vice President of the Memorial Boulevard Cultural Center non-profit board since 2015.

His vision for Bristol is one where “we move away from partisan politics and operate more through common sense, transparency, and collaboration for the good of the community.”

Medeiros is currently the Director of Parks and Recreation for the Town of Canton and as an Adjunct Professor in the Recreation, Tourism and Sport Management Department at Southern Connecticut State University.

His experience is complimented with a master’s degree in Recreation Administration and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership.

Medeiros said, “I understand municipal government and how to get things done with limited funding. I’m used to justifying every expense, evaluating every line item and making decisions to benefit the community. I have a tremendous respect for taxpayers. With the current financial climate of the state I believe the next City Council needs to break down partisan barriers and work collaboratively to establish a clear vision and measurable goals for the City’s future,” in his view, “the biggest issues with the current administration is a lack of clear direction and forward thinking leadership, which has caused stagnation, delays and gridlock.”

Medeiros said he wants to listen to the people in district 1 and be able to provide a voice for them on the council.”

His interests vary but at the forefront of his campaign are maintaining and improving quality city services, downtown development and finding ways to be creative with revenue sources to keep taxes down.

“I want to hear from anyone and everyone in the 1st district that has ideas on how to make city government better for them.” said Medeiros.
