For Goodness Sake, a local nonprofit that provides donated furniture to people transitioning from homelessness, will have an Open House at their warehouse at 273 Riverside Avenue, Bristol, on Sunday, October 1, from 1 to 3 pm.

For Goodness Sake is a 100% volunteer-run, 501c3 non-profit organization that partners with organizations to help people in Central Connecticut who are making the transition to independent living and in need due to certain life situations.

The nonprofit provides direct aid, such as furniture and household goods, making an empty space into a home. The organization serves families and individuals in Bristol, Burlington, Farmington, Harwinton, New Britain, Plainville, Plantsville, Plymouth, Southington, West Hartford, and Wolcott.

The organization is celebrating 4 years of helping people in need – over 600 families and individuals –  and the Open House is an opportunity for people in the community to see the impact For Goodness Sake is making.

Visitors will learn about the history of For Goodness Sake and they will also have the opportunity to tour the warehouse to see how the 100%-volunteer group gets donations to the families that need them, every week, all year long. Visitors to the Open House will also learn about opportunities to volunteer.

For Goodness Sake is currently only open on Saturday mornings, but is looking to expand to Sundays to be able to serve more families, and more volunteers are needed to make it happen.

Revised bill allowing casino bidding process clears panel

It would create a process enabling private casino developers to submit proposals to build a gambling facility somewhere in Connecticut, possibly in Bridgeport. Unlike the original version, the amended bill no longer strips last year’s legislative approval of a new tribal casino in East Windsor, […]
