Burlington offers Johnnycake Mountain Discovery Ramble

Burlington Connecticut Land Trust

Karen Geitz from the Burlington Land Trust will be leading a “Johnnycake Mountain Discovery Ramble” on three consecutive days. Saturday, October 7th, Sunday, October 8th and Monday, October 9th each time from 1:00-3:30 PM.

Participants can learn about the history of Burlington’s Johnnycake Mountain and experience the beautiful Blue Trails that cross it.

Walk the rolling hills, cross grassy fields and travel along the Blue Trails through the forest for this 2.5 mile loop.

First Selectman Ted Shafer said “the Town is again happy to partner with community groups  to offer residents a chance to stop by and enjoy their new Johnnycake Mt Park and surrounding trails as the master design process continues”

Directions to the starting point:

From the center of Burlington at the intersection of Routes 4 and 69, travel south on Rte. 69 and immediately after Dunkin Donuts, take a right up Rock Rd.

Go to the end of Rock Road and at the stop sign, go left onto Johnnycake Mountain Rd. Travel .2 miles and take a left into Johnnycake Mt Park. Go to the end of the driveway and park your car.

Bring binoculars, if you’d like. No dogs, please.

Waterbury man killed in motorcycle crash

BETHANY — State Police say a Waterbury man was killed after his motorcycle crashed on the Litchfield Turnpike. Police say the crash happened just before 9:30 p.m. in Bethany. They were called to the area of Litchfield Turnpike and Hatfield Road for the accident, police say.
