Veterans Strong becomes non-profit

Veterans Strong Community Center Bristol CT.

Veterans Strong Community Center announced that it has incorporated and been granted non-profit status by the Internal Revenue Service.  The new name is officially Veterans Strong Community Center, Inc.

The Center is a regional information and resource office serving the communities of Bristol, Burlington, Harwinton, Plainville, Plymouth, Southington, Thomaston and Wolcott.  The Center opened on July 1, 2016 allowing Veterans to gain access to programs and resources for assistance in a variety of circumstances, from requesting discharge records to homelessness and unemployment.

The Board of Directors held its first meeting in September 2017, when the organization was incorporated.  Elections were held and officers are Sherelyn Labowski of Southington (President), Ed Chamberlain of Bristol (Vice President), Stanley Piotrowski of Bristol (Treasurer), and Ed Litherland of Bristol (Secretary). Additional board members include, Donna Dognin of Terryville, John Lodovico of Bristol and Patrick Nelligan of Bristol. Mrs. Dognin has been appointed as Executive Director of the Center.

“We are excited to begin this next chapter for the Center.”

This change in status allows us to pursue previously inaccessible funding resources and new stakeholders. By incorporating and becoming a not for profit, we have solidified our future in service to Veterans and expanded our services offered.

A new website will be going live by February 10th, otherwise there are no other immediate changes, and our mission remains as always, which is “Serving Veterans – Past, Present & Future”.

Veterans Strong Community Center is located in Bristol City Hall, 111 North Main Street, Bristol.

The website is www.vetstronginc.org.  A new email will also be going live by February 10th –  donnadognin@vetstronginc.org.  The phone number is 860-584-6258.
