In 1912, Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo gifted 3,000 cherry trees to the United States.

The trees symbolize the long lasting friendship between the United States and Japan and the continuation of their relationship.

Each year, millions of people visit the nation’s capital to see the trees in full bloom for the National Cherry Blossom Festival, an annual event that has become one of the nation’s greatest springtime celebrations.

MILFORD – The State of Connecticut is giving a heads up to parents because some state beaches will be so short on lifeguards this summer and there could be days where there would not be one at all.  Silver Sands State Park is one of the three beaches that will be seeing a shortage.
