New Latina Women’s Golf League is in Full Swing

The new CT Latinas Golf Team led by Estrela Segarra met for the first time on May 2nd at Goodwin Park Golf Course in Hartford for the start of a 6-week session. Women are invited to sign up by May 30th for the second session starting on June 13th.

More than 30 women from across the state hit the fairways for the first time at Goodwin Park Golf Course in Hartford on May 2nd as members of the newly formed CT Latinas Golf Team.  Team founder Estrela Segarra has a passion for golf and wanted to share it with other women in a fun and supportive environment.

The group will meet for 6-weeks every Wednesday to learn the fundamentals of golf, play the game and socialize.

“Estrela understands that the game and some courses can be intimidating, so we wanted to provide a welcoming, positive experience,” said Joe Mentz, Head Golf Professional at Goodwin. “The friendly layout of Goodwin makes it the ideal course for beginners and offers seasoned players the opportunity to shoot a very good round.”

As an example, Mentz congratulates Greg Larocque of Old Lyme, who made not only one Hole in One, but two in the same round! Greg hit an 8 iron on both the 7th and 15th holes to achieve this remarkable accomplishment on May 9th.

Mentz explained that players of all talent levels can either sign up for all three CT Latinas 6-week sessions to build upon their skills, or just take one session. Each evening will begin at 5:30pm with a short instructional period followed by 9 holes of golf.  After each lesson, the women can mingle at Goodwin’s renovated Hangar Restaurant.

Mentz encourages other non-traditional golfers to check out Goodwin after extensive upgrades. “The course is beautiful and truly accessible for everyone with its convenient location and affordable price.”

In fact, from now until June 1st golfers age 62 and up can take advantage of an amazing deal. Goodwin is offering a cart, bucket of balls and a $5 voucher for the Hangar restaurant for just $35 Monday through Friday mornings before 10 am(excluding holidays).

The Goodwin Park Golf Course dates back to 1906 and is now thriving after $1 million in improvements. The course is home to a nine-hole North Course and an 18-hole South Course, as well as a practice area and driving range. It is located at 1130 Maple Avenue in Hartford.
