“Opioids: What Older Adults Need to Know,” happens on Tuesday, June 12 at 11 a.m. at Southington Public Library, 255 Main St, Southington.
Heather Clinger, MPH, CPS, Wheeler program manager, will help participants learn what they to need know and ask when being prescribed opioid medications, as well as strategies for proper medication disposal. National and local data will be shared as well. Registration is required through the Southington Public Library website atwww.southingtonlibrary.org.
Mental Health First Aid will be offered on June 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. at the Southington Community YMCA, 130 North Main Street, Southington. Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour training course designed to give members of the public key skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.
Included on SAMHSA’s National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices, studies show that training in Mental Health First Aid builds confidence in helping an individual experiencing a mental health challenge, reduces negative or distancing attitudes towards individuals with mental illnesses, and increases mental health literacy – being able to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.

WALLINGFORD — State Police say that 56-year-old Sharon Ryan of Meriden was killed after she tried crossing three lanes on I-91 in Wallingford Wednesday night. Police say that a car was driving in the center of the three lanes on I-91 northbound near the exit 13 off ramp. NEW HAVEN — New Haven police are investigating a two car crash that happened overnight. The crash happened just after 1:30 a.m. on the corner of Libery Street and Spring Street. Two people were injuried with one of them listed in ‘very serious’ condition. Other injuries are unknown at this time. This is a developing story.
