Ensuring Fiscal Transparency to Taxpayers: Bristol Receives National Recognition for Financial Reporting

Bristol City Hall

The City of Bristol was recently awarded the Certificate of Achievement for the Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its June 30, 2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).

This achievement is the highest form of recognition given in governmental accounting and financial reporting. The Award of Financial Reporting Achievement was awarded to Robin Manuele, Assistant Comptroller, for her successful efforts in coordinating and preparing the CAFR within the Comptroller’s Office and with the City’s outside auditors.

A group of independent reviewers from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) also found that the City’s Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR), a condensed summary of the CAFR, met the requirements for the PAFR program for the June 30, 2017 fiscal year.

Both programs are judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of both programs, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” that clearly communicates the City’s financial story to potential users of the financial statement information.

“The City of Bristol is honored to have received these awards and recognition and will strive to continue the success in the upcoming fiscal year” said Bristol Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu.

“Both of these awards are indicative of the dedication of the staff in the Comptroller’s Office to continue to receive these awards. This is the 31st year the City has received the CAFR award and the 16th year the City has received the PAFR award.

Both awards are viewed very highly by the rating agencies. I want to give special recognition to the efforts of Robin Manuele, Assistant Comptroller, Jodi McGrane, Assistant to the Comptroller, Skip Gillis, Senior Accountant and Sharon Chaika, Budget/Financie Analyst” said Diane Waldron, Comptroller.
