Mum Festival Parade Route Shortened — Mummer to Highlight Parade

Mum Festival Parade

The Mum Festival Committee announced this year’s parade will feature the Mummer and a shorter parade route.

“As part of this year’s Mum Festival events, Sunday, September 23th at 1:30pm will once again feature the historic Mum Festival Parade. A long-time tradition of the Festival the Chrysanthemum (Mum) Parade was started 57 years ago.”

The Mum Festival Parade is one of the State’s largest parades, featuring Bristol and surrounding area businesses, organizations, marching bands and units, and over 40 wonderful floats.

The parade has been produced by the Greater Bristol Exchange Club for over 50 years. The Parade sponsor is the City of Bristol.

For those organizations interested in participating in this year’s parade there is still time to sign up and be part of the festivities. Applications will be taken until September 8th.

“We are so excited to have the world-famous Woodland Street Band join us this year,” said Jack Ferraro, Mum Festival Chairman.

“They are sure to be a real crowd pleaser, this colorful marching band is one act that can accurately lay claim to the title of unique. Bristol is really in for a real treat on parade day”.

Established in 1926, the Philadelphia, PA-based Woodland String Band has competed in the hyper-competitive Philadelphia Mummer’s Parade on New Years Day every year since, selecting a new theme, musical performance and ornate set of costumes for each parade.

“Based on the feedback from last year’s parade and in our efforts to continually improve the parade flow and for safer pedestrian crossing, the Parade Committee has also shortened the 2018 Parade Route to make it even more enjoyable, said Dianna Tack Mum Festival Parade Chair.

“The Parade will now officially end at North Main Street. Spectators should avoid North Main Street, as the parade will no longer travel down this road as it did in the past,” added Tack.

As previously announced, NBC Connecticut’s Bob Maxon will be this year’s honored Mum Festival Grand Marshall and lead the parade.

The festival will offer a jam-packed, activity-filled, family friendly epic 4-day Annual Mum Festival weekend on September 20th through the 23rd.

The parade also book-ends the celebrated Mum Festival Carnival & Vendor Extravaganza.
